Lake Mead mystery solved: man identified four years after barrel discovery
Edward Lelburian Jackson has been identified as the man found in Lake Mead four years ago.
Jackson's remains were discovered in 2022 in a barrel in Lake Mead, exposed as drought lowered water levels. Jackson had been shot in the head, probably killed in the mid-1970s to early 1980s.
For four years, investigators searched for his identity using DNA analysis and genealogy databases. An Oklahoma State University forensics lab provided the key match this year.
Jackson was from Arkansas and was last seen by his family in the early 1980s. He had lived in California and Utah before he went missing.
Police say there is no evidence linking the murder to organized crime groups, despite earlier speculation.
