Lilydale Memorial Hall's $100,000 repair could be cancelled after Launceston council cut its budget by $417,000.
The Lilydale Memorial Hall, built in 1955 with donated materials, is now at risk of losing planned repairs. The supper room floor collapsed again only three years after being patched.
The council lifted the floorboards and found the bearers and joists were essentially rotted by moisture underneath. Workers later cut holes in vinyl flooring to inspect the subfloor, leaving the floor unstable and patchy.
The hall needed $100,000 in repairs this year. But Launceston council voted in September to cap rate increases at 20% after farmers faced a near 40% rate rise earlier in 2026.
This created a $417,000 hole in the budget. Council has not yet said which projects will be cut.
