New Lambton landslip residents set for Christmas resolution
Residents from 19 properties affected by Australia's largest residential landslip may get their compensation settled by Christmas 2026.
The City of Newcastle and NSW Reconstruction Authority have started talks on compensation packages for residents who left after the landslip. Officials are working on three types of funds: covering land value, demolition costs for the 19 affected houses, and ground stabilisation over two years.
Chief executive Jeremy Bath said discussions have been positive. The council is also introducing a landslide risk map.
A further 16 nearby properties have been flagged as having minor risks.
