Newcastle erupts for Knights as underdogs face Penrith
Over 1000 Newcastle supporters packed a training session as the Knights prepare to face Penrith in Sunday's NRL grand final.
Newcastle came out in red and blue to back the Knights at Broadmeadow as they gear up for arguably their greatest challenge: beating Nathan Cleary's Penrith Panthers. The minor premiers have dominated the NRL era, winning four of the past five grand finals.
Bookmakers have them red-hot favourites for a sixth decider in seven seasons. The Knights faithful are daring to believe.
Fan Sam Gannon said if the team keeps playing with the grit and determination they have shown lately, they could win. Some supporters attended the 1997 grand final parade as teenagers and are now bringing their own children, hoping to celebrate a first premiership in nearly three decades.
