Gnomes co-writer Tegan Higginbotham worries Nazis are taken seriously again
The show's bumbling Nazi guards fail to activate a gnome queen's power and set off a plague of killer gnomes.
Tegan Higginbotham spent ten years developing the horror-comedy series Gnomes. Higginbotham co-wrote the series with her husband, Paul F Verhoeven.
Higginbotham says she grew up on comedies where Nazis are funny. The Nazis steal a deadly but petrified European gnome queen near the end of the Second World War.
The story is set in the small fictional Australian town of Nompton. The bumbling Nazi guards fail to activate the queen's power, which starts a plague of killer gnomes.
Higginbotham is worried we are back to a place where Nazis are taken seriously. Asa Butterfield plays Senior Sergeant Arnold Kipps, who is having one of the worst days of his career.
The production team built hundreds of gnomes using puppets and special effects.
