NSW Premier confirms safety review after car hits 10 Knights fans
Premier Chris Minns confirmed a review of crowd safety measures following the car attack that injured 10 fans.
NSW Premier Chris Minns confirmed a review of crowd safety measures. A BMW allegedly driven by an 18-year-old P-plater struck 10 Newcastle Knights fans near a roundabout on Newcastle Link Road in Wallsend last Saturday.
The incident turned a celebration into a crisis. Driver Indika Bambrick Samarasinghe was charged and faces court on October 15.
Minns said authorities must learn from such accidents and keep the public safe. Police followed the Knights bus and opened a clear path, but the crash occurred kilometres ahead.
Questions arose about whether crowd control was enough.
