Snowtown killer Vlassakis moves to pre-release centre
Snowtown killer James Spyridon Vlassakis moved to an Adelaide pre-release centre. He completed his 26-year non-parole period.
James Spyridon Vlassakis, 46, has been moved to the Adelaide Pre-release Centre at Yatala, the first step toward his release into the community. He will stay there for up to 12 months.
The Parole Board will watch him while his release conditions are set. Vlassakis was the youngest of four people found guilty in the bodies in the barrels serial killings.
These killings happened between 1992 and 1999. He admitted his role in killing Fred Brooks, Gary O'Dwyer, David Johnson and his half-brother Troy Youde.
The South Australian government tried to stop his release earlier this month. But the decision was upheld.
Vlassakis's evidence helped get convictions against John Bunting (11 murders) and Robert Wagner (10 murders). Victim relatives have shown worry.
