Teen charged after guard hospitalised in Westfield assault
A 66-year-old security guard was hospitalised after being attacked at Coomera Westfield; a 15-year-old has been charged.
A 66-year-old security guard was attacked and hospitalised after asking young people to leave Coomera Westfield on Tuesday evening. The guard sustained a concussion and head laceration when he fell after being punched several times in the head.
Police say two males assaulted the guard around 6.40pm during his shift. The group, believed to include males and females aged between 14 and 18, fled the shopping centre after the assault.
The guard was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious condition. Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said the man is in good health overall but stayed in hospital due to his age and the severity of his head injury.
A 15-year-old from Eagleby has been charged with serious assault of a person over 60. Police are continuing to investigate and search for the second male and other group members.
