Shona Joy shuts after 26 years; founder prioritises family
Designer Shona Thatcher is closing her fashion label Shona Joy after 26 years to focus on family priorities.
Shona Joy, the Australian fashion label founded by Shona Thatcher in 2000, is closing after 26 years. Thatcher told staff on Monday the decision stems from the strain of commuting between her Sydney office and home in Byron Bay, where she moved five years ago.
Thatcher said the business has grown too large for her to manage alongside motherhood. The closure is not driven by financial stress.
Thatcher spent four years weighing the decision and even explored selling the company but found no fit. She will retain the intellectual property and brand name.
All 33 staff will receive pay and entitlements. Thatcher cited fast fashion and the pressure to release four collections yearly as industry challenges.
