The Murray-Darling Basin Authority has rejected calls to use dams for flood relief. The authority's executive director Jacqui Hickey said dam operations cannot guarantee protection.
Water storage levels, rainfall and river flows cannot be predicted. Hickey wrote this after 1,074 residents signed a petition.
They want flood relief because insurance costs rose after a council study. The MDBA says existing dams should not be relied on for flood protection.
Federation Council voted 6-3 against a second review of its flood study. Councillor Andrew Kennedy warned about forcing homes to be built higher.
