Wollongong man jailed for kicking stabbing victim
Hussein Arli Mehdi was sentenced to 12 months jail for kicking a stabbing victim on Corrimal Street in Wollongong in April.
Mehdi, 28, appeared in court on September 29 for his role in the April 15 assault at a unit building. A 43-year-old man was stabbed with a 15cm kitchen knife in an argument that turned violent.
Mehdi ran up to the wounded victim and kicked him in the back before running away, CCTV footage showed. The stabbing victim suffered a two-centimetre wound to the abdomen.
Mehdi was originally charged with reckless wounding but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of common assault. Judge Geraldine Beattie noted he was already in breach of two good behaviour orders.
She found special circumstances relating to his mental health and drug use at the time. With time served, Mehdi is expected to be released in October.
