Beaumont Street CCTV plan stalls over $100,000 state funding gap
A $100,000 funding gap is stopping CCTV installation on Beaumont Street in Newcastle.
Beaumont Street in Hamilton, Newcastle, needs CCTV cameras to fight crime. The project is stuck because the state won't pay half the $100,000 cost.
Council and the Hamilton Business Improvement Association agreed to fund the cameras if the state covered half. Local Liberal councillor Jenny Barrie blames state MP Tim Crakanthorp and the NSW government for abandoning residents.
In November 2024, a 22-year-old was killed after allegedly being followed and ambushed on Beaumont Street.
