Master Builders Association awards highlight quality and innovation surge
The Master Builders Association recognized six award-winning projects. They showed rapid improvement in quality, innovation and sustainable building methods.
The association held its annual excellence awards on Friday. The awards showcased Canberra's best building work across many price ranges.
Judge Simon Butt said the industry is achieving better quality builds with genuine innovation, particularly in using environmentally-friendly materials like composites. One winning project was a fully-certified passive house in Turner.
It had triple-glazed windows, super-insulated walls and an underground spring. The spring supplies all non-potable water.
Other recognitions included a mountain-biking family home with panoramic views. Another was a multi-generational Deakin home.
It featured polished concrete, Italian marble and brass fixtures. The fixtures were salvaged from the builder's grandfather's 1970s house.
