Foul smell from Bega facility forces Koroit residents to seal their homes
A foul odour from Bega's Koroit facility has made residents gag for about three weeks; Bega and EPA are investigating.
A stench described as sewage-like has been drifting through the south-west Victorian town of Koroit for about three weeks. The smell forces residents to shut windows and doors.
The smell is strongest at night and early morning. This stench is intense enough to make people feel physically sick.
Local resident Judd Kiley said he and others have been unable to walk down Koroit's main street without gagging. Bega, which operates a facility in the town, confirmed it is aware of the odour.
The company is working with authorities to fix it. An Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria spokesman said the authority is in contact with the company.
