Mike Newman backs tighter abortion curbs ahead of March NSW vote
One Nation's Mike Newman says his party will seek stricter abortion controls if elected in NSW. These would target sex-selection and late-term procedures.

If One Nation won government, it would seek tighter abortion rules. One Nation would support a private member's bill from Libertarian MP John Ruddick.
That bill would make sex-selective abortion illegal and punish doctors with jail terms. Sex-selection terminations are already banned under NSW Health policies.
However, they are not explicitly outlawed in law. Doctors can face discipline but not prosecution.
Between October 2019 and September 2020, only 13 of 15,973 terminations were listed as sex-selective. Researchers found 10 of those were likely reporting errors.
If One Nation wins in March, Newman said it would put abortion restrictions back on the agenda.
