Tasmanian footy legend Bob Withers dies aged 92
Bob Withers was a Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame member. He captained and coached North Launceston. He died aged 92 on Wednesday.
Bob Withers was born in Victoria. He played 200 games as captain-coach for North Launceston and Launceston in Tasmania.
He also played 12 games for Tasmania. At the 1961 national carnival, he was named All-Australian.
Bob Withers lived by the motto "don't get angry, get even". He never asked players to do anything he wouldn't do himself, his son Steven said.
Former player Robbie Sanders said Withers had an aura. When he walked in, he owned the room.
Beyond football, Withers was recognized by Bowls Australia in 2022 for 50 years of service to the Trevallyn Bowls Club. He was made a life member in 1997.
He helped the club win its first division one pennant in 1973-74.
