Record 4500 run Launceston women's 5km, raise $183,000 for Cancer Council
A record 4500 people took part in the annual Cancer Council 5km fundraiser in Launceston, already raising $183,000 by mid-morning.
The 17th annual women's 5km in Launceston drew a record crowd of 4500 people. The crowd was 1000 more participants than last year, which was capped at 3500.
By mid-morning the event had raised $183,000 and organisers hoped the total would exceed $200,000. All funds stay in Tasmania for Cancer Council programs and free services to the community.
Many participants walked in groups wearing shirts in memory of loved ones. Jimmy Lyall from Deloraine won the race in about 16 minutes.
