Brisbane mansion fetches $17 million as elite market stays strong

A 1900s federation mansion at 1 Sutherland Avenue, Ascot sold for $17 million at auction, becoming the nation's top weekend result.

The six-bedroom estate on a 2,024-square-metre block achieved Australia's highest auction price for the weekend. Four registered bidders drove the sale from a $12 million opening.

The home has belonged to the same family for 25 years and sits on one of Brisbane's most sought-after streets, just a block from the city's second most expensive home at 32 Sutherland Avenue. The result shows demand remains strong at the luxury end despite gloomy national property headlines.

The agent said the campaign attracted close to 100 groups through in three weeks. He said a lack of supply rather than demand is the constraint.

By Saturday, 115 auctions had reported results, with a 32 per cent clearance rate across South East Queensland.
