Woman becomes major Bengal cat breeder
Barbie Farrugia went from non-cat owner to a top Bengal breeder in almost six years.
When her daughter got leukaemia, Barbie Farrugia's family rehomed their two dogs, worried allergies had triggered the illness. Barbie Farrugia and her family adopted Simba, a Bengal cat, a breed that produces fewer allergens than most cats.
Almost six years later, Farrugia is now one of Australia's biggest Bengal breeders. Bengals are known for being affectionate, energetic, and loving walks and adventures, which suited her busy household of seven children.
Farrugia established Wild Valley Bengals and was one of Australia's first breeders to introduce Cashmere Bengals, a long-haired variety. She shows cats competitively, with several of hers claiming champion titles.
