James Wehr, 27, who ran a popular car show with 150,000 followers, died in a single-vehicle crash in Southern California.
James Wehr, a Perth-born influencer and founder of the weekly South OC Cars and Coffee show, died on Saturday night when his McLaren crashed on a Southern California road. Police said the car was stopped at a traffic light, then accelerated at high speed after the light turned green.
The driver lost control, struck a curb and a tree. The vehicle split in two and caught fire.
Wehr ran the car meet with his parents, Simon and Sarah, and had built an audience of nearly 150,000 followers. His mother Sarah paid tribute on Instagram, remembering his first steps in Perth and calling him a devoted son whose love for people was "second to none".
The car community responded with grief. Followers said he was an inspiration and a real presence at weekly meetups.
