AIS gets $250 million Canberra campus overhaul before 2032 Olympics
The Australian Institute of Sport appoints builders for a $250 million redevelopment ahead of the 2032 Olympics.
The Australian Institute of Sport announced it appointed Richard Crookes Construction. They will lead the $250 million rebuild of its Bruce campus in Canberra.
Demolition of aging buildings, including the old athletes village, is now halfway done. New facilities start construction later this year.
They finish in the first half of 2028. This gives four years before the 2032 Olympics.
The project will create more than 300 jobs for Canberrans. New additions include a 200-bed multi-story accommodation block, an inflatable indoor sports dome and a high-performance testing center.
ASC CEO Kieren Perkins thanked the Albanese Government. They kept the AIS in Canberra instead of moving it to Queensland.
