Police seize .22 rifle with illegal silencer near Mitta caravan park

A 53-year-old Dartmouth man was found with a loaded rifle fitted with a silencer and infra-red scope.

Police were called to an area near Mitta Mitta Caravan Park on September 2 after reports of gunfire. Officers found a 53-year-old man walking out of the local golf course carrying a loaded .22 rifle.

The rifle was fitted with a silencer and infra-red scope, both illegal modifications. Police will allege the man had discharged several rounds in the area.

Investigators seized his firearms and suspended his firearms licence. He has been interviewed by police.
