Teen e-bike rider charged after helicopter-led police pursuit in Adelaide

Groups of teenagers on e-bikes have been tearing through Seaford in Adelaide's southern suburbs, riding on footpaths, through parks and across car parks without helmets or protective gear. Residents say they no longer feel safe walking outside.
One alleged rider was tracked down using helicopters, undercover patrols and plain-clothed officers. The 16-year-old was charged with riding an unregistered and uninsured motorbike without a licence, and his bike was impounded for 28 days.
The teen told media he felt scared by the police tactics used against him and questioned whether they were excessive for someone on a bike. He said only a small number of riders are causing real trouble and harassing people.
Locals want tougher penalties, suggesting repeat offenders should have their bikes destroyed, similar to hoon-driving laws. The teenager said he plans to sell his bike once he gets it back.
