About 50 people are camped at Memorial Drive in Safety Bay, roughly 50 kilometres south of Perth. The state government has ordered them to leave by September 22, giving residents less than a week to find shelter.
Some have been living there for months, with some sleeping in cars and others in tents. People in the camp said rent in Perth is unaffordable: caravan parks cost nearly $800 a fortnight, and houses $900 a week.
The government has known about the camp since April. The WA homelessness minister said the government will help connect people to crisis, transitional or permanent housing, but residents fear there is nowhere to move to.
