$50,000 copper stolen from abandoned Portland homes in a week
Three unoccupied homes in north Portland lost up to $50,000 worth of copper in targeted raids within seven days.
Portland police are hunting thieves who stripped copper wiring and pipes from three abandoned or derelict homes in the past week. The total value of stolen material is up to $50,000, with one house alone losing copper worth about $25,000.
All three targeted properties are older houses in north Portland. At one home on Hanlon Parade, witnesses spotted what they thought was a tradesperson working at the site during daylight.
Senior Constable Aaron Elford is urging the public to report any suspicious activity at unoccupied homes. Police are following several lines of inquiry.
