Panda Mart fined $80,000 for selling dangerous electrical goods
Energy Safe Victoria took Panda Mart to court. They found over 900 unsafe lamps and other electrical products for sale.
Panda Mart was fined $80,000 in Frankston Magistrates' Court in Victoria. The ultra-cheap retailer sold hundreds of dangerous household items: lamps, power boards, chargers, adapters and powered recliners.
Panda Mart pleaded guilty to 15 charges under the Electricity Safety Act. Energy Safe Victoria's investigation found portable lamps with poor insulation and exposed electrical parts.
These parts could cause shock injuries. The regulator also found unsafe extension cords, USB chargers and LED globes on Panda Mart's shelves.
Magistrate Tan said the conduct was serious because of the risk of death or physical harm. A New Zealand regulator warned the Victorian watchdog in March 2025.
Panda Mart operates stores in Melbourne and Brisbane. It has faced multiple enforcement actions for product safety breaches.
