Daniel Dubois retains WBO title with second-round stoppage of Wardley

Daniel Dubois stopped Fabio Wardley in the second round to retain his WBO heavyweight title in their rematch.

The 29-year-old British heavyweight champion dominated his rematch against fellow Briton Fabio Wardley at London's O2 Arena on Saturday. Dubois floored Wardley within 17 seconds of the opening bell with a straight right.

Wardley survived the first round despite heavy pounding on the ropes, saved only by the bell. Wardley could not continue in the second round as his corner threw in the towel and the referee stopped the fight.

Dubois won their first meeting in May in Manchester in the 11th round after Wardley recovered from being knocked down twice. The victory consolidates Dubois as WBO champion and sets up potential unification fights with other champions.

Wardley's record is now 20 wins, two losses and one draw.
