Driver walks away from worst crash police officer has seen

A 34-year-old walked away from a head-on crash a police sergeant called the worst collision he has seen.

A ute crossed double lines and hit a log truck head-on the Princes Highway near Yambuk on Friday afternoon. The ute driver, 34, broke his ankle but walked away.

The truck driver was unharmed. A motorcycle rider behind the ute escaped without injury.

Port Fairy police sergeant Liam Cook said the damage was severe. "I've been a police officer for more than 12 years, it was the worst collision I've seen someone walk away from," he said.

The cause is still unknown and investigations are continuing.
