Afghan-born officer becomes youngest speaker at Anzac Dawn Service
Kbora Ali gave the national Anzac Day Commemorative Address. She was one of the youngest and most junior personnel ever chosen.
Kbora Ali received her invitation in December to speak at the 2026 Anzac Day Dawn Service in Canberra. Before the ceremony, the Australian War Memorial director gave her two coins.
One had the Australian flag alone. One had both Australian and Afghan flags together.
The director told her, "This represents you, you embody the spirit of both countries." About 35,000 people attended, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Ali delivered her address and returned to position. The chaplain beside her whispered, "Well done".
During the national anthem, her eyes filled with tears. She described it as the proudest moment of her service.
Her family, including her parents and fellow officer Masoma, had travelled to Canberra to watch.
