Sadistic online cult networks coercing Australian children into self-harm

A 14-year-old in Western Australia was groomed, coerced into self-harm, and targeted by a global sadistic online network known as 764.

A 14-year-old in Western Australia was lured into a sadistic online cult on the gaming platform Roblox. The teenager thought she met a friend.

The predator, believed to be in Eastern Europe, moved her to Discord. The predator gradually demanded more: selfies, explicit content, then self-harm and filming sinister acts.

Around 1.7 million Australian children aged 6 to 13 use Roblox. When she refused to live-stream her suicide, he messaged her father with collages of her images mixed with gore and pornography.

WA Police received 19 referrals related to this network in the past 18 months. The group, called 764, was created by a Texas teenager six years ago.

It operates globally through encrypted messaging. The FBI describes such networks as modern-day terrorism linked to suicide, animal torture, and school shootings overseas.

Why it mattersParents and children should recognise the warning signs: hiding devices, isolating from friends and family, and behaviour changes that suggest online exploitation.

AustraliaAustralian children using popular gaming platforms are at risk from international predators; WA Police cybercrime squad is actively investigating these networks.
