Two residents on dumping ground road claim council abandoned them
Neil Monsant and his partner are the only residents on a 1-kilometre gravel road. It's buried under waste.
Mt Atkinson Road west of Melbourne has become a dumping ground. Monsant runs an auto electrician business from his home.
Monsant says people illegally dump everything from toilet basins to entire boats and cars. His tyres puncture regularly from nails and screws scattered across the road.
He says the state of the property drives customers away. He's confronted those dumping waste and called council repeatedly.
But the council recently claimed the road is private. They refused to do further cleanups.
Melton City Council is working with the state government. It's also applying for support from the Illegal Dumping Clean-up Rebate Program.
