Strike on cargo ship off Qeshm island kills one in Strait of Hormuz
An Iranian cargo vessel was struck off Qeshm island in the Strait of Hormuz; one crew member killed, four wounded.
An Iranian cargo ship was hit in the Strait of Hormuz off Qeshm island. Qeshm is about 22 kilometres from the port of Bandar Abbas.
The strike killed one crew member and wounded four others, Iranian state media said. A fire broke out on the vessel.
Local authorities helped evacuate those on board. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations monitor said a vessel was hit by a projectile while transiting the strait, though it is not clear if this was the same attack.
Iran's Qeshm governor blamed a terrorist enemy for the attack. The assault comes as threats to shipping have intensified following Houthi advances in the Red Sea.
