Sam Walker running again after ankle surgery, Roosters eye finals boost

Sam Walker is back running after ankle surgery and recovering faster than usual for a syndesmosis injury.

Sam Walker had surgery on August 30 after a syndesmosis injury in round 26. Coach Trent Robinson says he is healing faster than most players with that injury.

Walker is moving in a straight line well and is on track to progress over coming weeks. Robinson has not ruled out Walker playing in a preliminary final if the Roosters beat Penrith in Sunday's qualifying final.

But he stopped short of confirming it. Utility Hugo Savala is wearing the No.6 jersey, having played the halves position extensively in reserve grade.

Savala also started there in all but three of his 21 matches in 2025.

Why it mattersA fulltime halfback's return could transform the Roosters' attacking shape and give them a genuine path through the finals when they're in doubt.

AustraliaSydney Roosters fans now have genuine hope the injured halfback could return for a grand final run despite losing their last three games.
