Man charged with bribing officials over wife's suspected murder
Awlad Hossain was charged with bribing officials to remove his name from a murder investigation into his wife's death.
The 51-year-old Queensland man was arrested on Tuesday. He is accused of working with Bangladeshi officials between September 2024 and September 2026.
Hossain's estranged wife, Rehana Parvin, was an Australian citizen and mother of five. Her body was found in a village in Bangladesh in September 2024.
The AFP says Hossain arranged about $90,000 to be sent to Bangladesh to bribe officials and have his name removed from police records. Awlad Hossain has not been charged with her death in either country, though Bangladeshi police have issued an arrest warrant for him.
The AFP searched homes in Goodna and Redbank Plains and seized electronic devices. They also seized financial records from Sydney and Brisbane.
This is the first time the AFP has brought such a foreign bribery case to court.
