Driver charged after car hits cyclists, killing two in Canberra
40-year-old driver charged with culpable driving causing death after Hyundai crashed into cycling group.
A 40-year-old woman has been charged with killing two cyclists on Gungahlin Drive in northern Canberra on 27 August. Bridie Lee, 32, died at the scene after a Hyundai Accent crashed into a group of five cyclists just after 6 am.
Ryan Riethmuller, 39, was taken to hospital but died a week later from his injuries. A third cyclist, 34, was also treated for injuries.
The cyclists were riding as part of the Canberra Bilbys Triathlon Club's regular morning group. The driver was issued with a summons on 18 September and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on 20 October, charged with two counts of culpable driving causing death and one count of negligent driving causing actual bodily harm.
