High-wire dance and world-class choreographers land at renovated Barangaroo

Sydney Festival 2027 will bring 11 international dance works and 174 performers and crew for a major dance program.

Sydney is getting a major dance festival in January 2027. The program, called Dance Reflections, will bring 11 international works from France, Belgium, South Africa and beyond, tripling the dance offering of the last Sydney festival.

The flagship work is Outsider by French choreographer Rachid Ouramdane. Outsider features 21 dancers and four elite athletes on high wires and slack lines to music by composer Julius Eastman.

Outsider will be performed in a purpose-built 720-seat theatre inside the recently renovated Cutaway at Barangaroo. This is the first time the space has been used for theatre.

Other highlights include works by choreographers who worked with Madonna, Beyoncé and Rosalía. Belgian master Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker returns with her company Rosas.

Indigenous dance company Marrugeku will present a new Australian work. Tickets start at $49, with 10,000 A-Reserve tickets available.

Two works are free.
