Man held over suspected attack plan on Polish PM Donald Tusk
Authorities called the threat deadly serious and said it had a high chance of being carried out.
Polish police have detained a man suspected of planning an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski confirmed the arrest on X. He gave no further details.
Earlier, a spokesperson for the special services said authorities treated the threat as deadly serious. The spokesperson, Jacek Dobrzynski, said there was a high probability the threats would be carried out.
The warning covered Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. The State Protection Service sent police an email with information about the possible attack.
That service is in charge of ministers' security. Tusk thanked police for their swift and decisive action on X. Violent crime is relatively rare in Poland.
But the country is deeply divided politically. It has also faced security threats because of how close it is to the war in Ukraine.
