Mohammad Ahmadzai denied bail over extremist material charges
A 31-year-old Melbourne man was denied bail after being charged with possessing violent extremist material on his phone.
Mohammad Ahmadzai, 31, was refused bail in Melbourne Magistrates Court. He was charged with possessing violent extremist material.
Federal police raided his Roxburgh Park home in May. They seized two phones.
When Ahmadzai refused to provide the passcodes, authorities later gained access. They found videos of beheadings and mass violence.
Magistrate Samantha Seoud said the alleged offending was serious. She said the prosecution's case was "not weak".
Ahmadzai had been allowed to remain free for months. Police had found the material earlier.
He was arrested at Melbourne Airport on Saturday. He was preparing to travel to Afghanistan.
He is also charged with failing to provide access to electronic devices on request.
