Elsie Harris, a community volunteer and mother of seven, died aged 92 on September 8.
Elsie Harris lived by a simple creed: "Take one day at a time." The 92-year-old, who spent 76 years at The Sisters before moving to Warrnambool in 2010, died on September 8.
Elsie Harris was a mother of seven who threw herself into community work wherever she lived. At The Sisters, she was deeply involved in local groups.
When she moved to Warrnambool, she took up old-time dancing, swimming lessons and volunteering with St Vincent de Paul, visiting people in their homes. Her family remembers her as hardworking and devoted.
She worked as a kitchen hand at Terang's Wheatsheaf Hotel for years and helped out at school canteens and footy clubs. Her sons Bryan, Leon and Bernie played for Fitzroy before it became the Brisbane Lions; when the Lions played Adelaide in a semi-final after her death, they wore black armbands to honour her.
She carried her faith and her simple philosophy through grief, including the loss of her husband Jack and two children.
