Sydney's newest cultural landmark, the billion-dollar Parramatta Powerhouse, opens November 7. The opening festival runs to November 29 and features 179 events.
The $4.5 million program focuses on immersive works, talks, and community events, not high-cost spectacles. Sixty-five per cent will be free.
Paid events range from $15 to $50. Starting Saturday, visitors need to book arrival times through the Powerhouse website.
Times are offered hourly. This helps manage crowds over opening weekend.
The festival opens with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and plaque unveiling on November 7. A donor preview and media tour runs on November 6.
The festival is open 10am to 5pm Monday through Wednesday. From Thursday to Sunday, hours are 10am to 9pm.
Former NASA administrator Charles F. Bolden Jr and science fiction author Ted Chiang will lead talks on November 8.
