Bondi grandmother allegedly stabbed 19 times; grandson charged with murder
Valentina Spivak, 90, was stabbed in her Bondi apartment; her grandson Sergei Mitnik, 47, was charged with murder.
Valentina Spivak was found with stab wounds to her throat and torso in her Bondi unit on Saturday around 5:15pm. Spivak died at the scene.
Sergei Mitnik, 47, was arrested at the unit and charged with domestic violence-related murder. Police said there was no known domestic violence history between them.
However, Mitnik had a domestic violence record with another person. In court Sunday, Mitnik's lawyer said he had been taking the weight-loss drug Ozempic for more than two months.
His lawyer also raised mental health concerns. Mitnik had cancelled a psychologist appointment last month.
Neighbours remembered Spivak as a quiet, gentle woman dedicated to her Jewish faith.
