Geelong man busted with 9kg of methadone at Melbourne Airport
A 48-year-old from Geelong was arrested at Melbourne Airport with 9kg of methadone hidden in luggage arriving from Thailand.
Australian Federal Police arrested a 48-year-old Geelong man at Melbourne Airport with 9kg of methadone hidden in his luggage. The man had just arrived on a flight from Thailand.
The drug haul was concealed in five plastic bags. The haul equated to more than four times the commercial quantity threshold.
He has been charged with importing and possessing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug. Both offences carry a maximum sentence of up to life imprisonment.
He was granted bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on January 7.
The AFP warned that quantities of this scale have potential to cause significant harm if diverted into the illicit drug market.
